Maker guide

Pace coin-operated machines

A historic maker of mechanical reel machines and other coin-operated devices.

Evidence to collect

Photograph the complete front, rear, side and base; every casting mark; mechanism plates; coin entry; reels or wheel; payout and jackpot assemblies; award card; locks; cabinet interior; and any restoration receipts or old photographs.

Identification and originality checks

  • Inspect casting patterns and mechanism layout.
  • Check locks, reels, payout components and wood base.
  • Do not rely on a reproduction award card for identification.

How to compare value

Compare the exact model, denomination, mechanism completeness, originality, cabinet condition, restoration quality and legal transferability. A visually attractive repaint and a documented original finish are different collector propositions.

Primary and museum sources

  • Use period catalogs, patents, machine labels and established collector references for model-level attribution.
Legal boundary: Maker and age identification do not determine legal ownership or operation. Research current law for every jurisdiction involved.
